A Digression: Valentine's Day

Writer: Kristin LindstromKristin Lindstrom

Every Valentine’s Day, we wake up and come to the kitchen to find four identical red, heart-shaped boxes of chocolate on the round table. These are whisked away to be enjoyed in private. It doesn’t take long before I eat my favorites and set the others aside for later. I leave the open box on my desk, which is centered under a window.

I like the cold night air so I leave the window open when I go to bed. Early the next morning, I wake up hearing rustling noises. I sit up to see a small flock of birds have descended on my chocolates! When I stand up they burst out the window, some carrying a chocolate. Of course, the rest is inedible since they have tramped over everything.

John gives me Boynton Valentine’s Day cards with terrific little doodles he’s done that enhance the existing artwork.
